Ages 6–7
Training
1st–2nd
The bridge from tee ball to real softball. Tees and coach pitch, two games a week.
Overview
The Training division is the bridge between tee ball and the full game. Players are generally 6 and 7 years old in 1st and 2nd grade, and a 5 year old with a year of prior experience may be selected to a Training team. A coach pitches to their own players with an 11 inch safety ball: three strikes, then three swings off the tee, and the batter is out if she still has not put it in play. There are no walks, no stealing and no standings, so the pressure is off and the focus stays on making contact and learning where to be.
Focus Areas
- Hitting from coach pitch as well as off a tee
- Fielding positions: catcher, two fielding pitchers, four infielders
- Running the bases without leading off
- Playing a full four-inning game
- Carrying tee ball fundamentals into live play
