Safety & Child Protection

Player safety is
everybody's job

Coaches are league representatives. Every interaction with a player carries weight. These rules are mandatory, not optional. They exist to protect the players, the families, and you.

7 Mandatory Rules

1

Never be alone with a player who is not your child

Always have another adult present. This protects both the player and the coach.

2

Report inappropriate conduct within 1 hour

Any concerning behavior by a participant, coach, or spectator must be reported to the League President immediately.

3

No physical contact except during softball instruction

High-fives and fist bumps are fine. Positioning a player's hands on a bat is fine. Beyond that, maintain appropriate boundaries.

4

No inviting players to your home

Unless it is a team event with a parent or guardian chaperone present.

5

No inappropriate language or derogatory comments

This applies to coaches, parents, and spectators. Set the standard by example.

6

Never leave a team event until all players have left

You are responsible until the last player is picked up by a parent or guardian.

7

Report all injuries to the League President within 1 hour

No matter how minor. Document what happened, when, and any treatment given.

Code of conduct

  • Zero tolerance for misconduct by any participant: coaches, players, parents, spectators
  • Only the Head Coach may address an umpire about a call, and must do so respectfully
  • Protesting an umpire ruling must be submitted in writing to the League President within 24 hours
  • Ejected participants must leave the field area immediately
  • Coaches must use reasonable efforts to control the behavior of players and spectators on their side

Pre-season meeting checklist

Hold a meeting with players and parents before the season starts. Cover these topics:

Game schedule and practice times
Sportsmanship expectations
The Child Safety Rule (review with families)
Playing time and position rotation policy
Team and league events
Communication plan (email, GameChanger, group chat)

See something? Say something.

If you witness or suspect any behavior that violates these safety standards, report it immediately. You can do so anonymously through our contact form.
